Believe it or not, a very high percentage of homes inspected in Brick, NJ and the surrounding Ocean County towns have some sort of termite presence. What Wood Destroying Insects (WDI) Or Termites Are In Brick Ocean County NJ?
For the purposes of a home inspection the, “Big 3” are termites, carpenter ants, and carpenter bees. In homes approximately 100 years old and older, another WDI, called a powder post beetle, is sometimes found. The bottom line is that, as the category name implies, termites and these other insects damage wood! 99% of the time someone asks, “Are they active?” and that’s often an irrelevant question because if we’re seeing a presence it’s often in the form of wood damage. And, just like a damaged piece of wood, maybe from someone with a saw that mistakenly cuts a joist, termites damage wood and it must be repaired.
In the NPMA-33 there will be a documenting, for example, of a termite presence or of seeing live insects, the damage from WDI, or of other indicators such as staining, exit holes, and shelter tubes. If identified the termite inspection report may recommend that all damaged wood be repaired. The NPMA may also call for the treatment of the house for one or more WDI. As a result of the termite inspection and NPMA, the mortgage company itself will almost definitely require that treatments occur, possibly repairs.
